There will be a surge in MOT tests this Autumn according to the Drivers and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). Part of the surge has been caused by the pandemic, which you can read more on here.
Motorists should book their MOT test as soon as they can to avoid any headaches come their MOT deadline.
DVSA’s Head of MOT Policy, Chris Price said:
“DVSA’s priority is to help everyone keep their vehicle safe to drive.
“While we’re sure everyone will be able get a test for their vehicle, slots will be harder to come by.
“If you want to use your usual garage and guarantee a slot before your expiry date, you should give them a call now and get it booked in.”
Glasgow is one of the cities in the UK with demand expected to be high. According to the figures from the DVSA, they expect there to be an additional 14,556 extra MOT tests to be carried out.
An MOT can be carried out up to one calendar month (minus a day) prior to the expiry date of the existing MOT certificate, while still preserving the anniversary of the expiry date.
This means drivers can book an MOT test earlier.
The DVSA expects drivers to abide by the law. The law states that vehicles must be kept in roadworthy condition all year round, regardless of when an MOT is due.
So, if a vehicle is found to be unsafe at any time of the year, motorists can be fined and face possible penalty points. Common failures such as tyre wear or a vehicle in need of a new set of brakes for example.
