The assessment showed the car needed a full respray. Firstly, we noticed the paintwork was rough as it sat under a tree, so it was covered in tree sap. Secondly, we noticed previous poor repairs. We also noticed damage on one of the quarter panels and cracks on both front and rear bumpers. Normally it would be new bumpers, but it was more economical to repair over replace on this occasion. Finally, the rest of the car was just dull and didn’t have a nice finish to it from previous paint repairs.
The first thing we did was give this car a good wash. This would help to get rid of any dirt and silicones which may be on the car.
Then, we stripped the car down, so this meant removing doors, bonnet, sills, roof, glass, and many other parts to do the job correctly.
We marked all the dents, scuffs, bumper cracks, along with any dirt and silicones in the paintwork. There was so much wrong with the body work on this car. In addition, we had to recreate broken parts using fibre glass, otherwise the bumpers wouldn’t fit correctly. Both quarter panels needed repaired properly as they were not repaired correctly either, amongst other areas of the car. So, you can imagine there was a lot to do.
After we had completed all repairs, we cleaned the car from any dust from sanding. Eventually we got the vehicle into the spray booth to allow us to mask it up and apply some coats of primer.
Firstly, the Ferrari was primed and out of the spray booth, we blocked the whole car down to smooth the primer. Secondly, the car was blocked and cleaned, it was back into the booth to be masked up and painted. Other parts of the car such as the bonnet, sills, bumpers etc were all primed and painted separately.
There were so many parts to this vehicle that needed a respray.
The rest of the process involved un-masking the car to allow us to de-nib and polish the Ferrari.
We could now build the Ferrari after it’s full respray and slowly, it started to look like a car again. The alloy wheels needed refurbished, as we couldn’t just leave with the car looking great.
The building stage can be very time consuming! But, as you can see we finally got there. And finally, the car looks tremendous.
